Frequently Asked Questions
Below are commonly asked questions, but should you have any additional questions please feel free to ask.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are usually 53-55 minutes in duration. How much do sessions cost and what insurance do you accept? *Self-pay is $150 for the first intake session and $125 per session for individuals. Self-payment is accepted for those who do not have insurance and/or do not want to utilize their insurance due to confidentiality concerns. *Insurance - We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield / Florida Blue, and United Healthcare, depending on your policy you will be responsible for your specialist copay amount deemed from the insurance company. The billing is completed by my office but your deductible and co-payments are your responsibility at each session. Please note it is the client's responsibility to verify that Abigayil (Abi) Abraham is an in-network provider. It is also the client's responsibility to know if there is a deductible that has to be met and what the co-pay may be. *Abi Abraham is not a provider for Employee Assistance Programs at this time. *Pre-Martial Counseling does not cover pre-martial counseling, they only cover diagnosable mental health disorders. It's $150 an hour for premarital counseling (around 6-8 sessions) and at the end you receive a certificate to get a discount on your marriage license. *Couples Counseling is $175 per session for 55 minutes. Insurance is not accepted for couples counseling. What does Insurance cover? Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:
Do you accept secondary insurance? No, but we can navigate this! I am happy to work with you to provide itemized receipts for your insurance company. What are your payment methods? It is customary to make payment during each session. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and HSA. What is your cancellation Policy? We require 48 business hours notice for cancellations. If 48 hours is not given, you will be charged $125 for a late cancelation fee. Do I need to take medications? As a therapist, I am not legally allowed to prescribe medications. However, based on a joint assessment of problems you are facing, it may be advisable for you to consult with a psychiatrist to determine whether medication is warranted. Typically, clients see someone under their health insurance coverage, or I can refer you to a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner. How long will I be in therapy? The length of time a client is in therapy depends the nature of the problem and the goals set in therapy. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of therapy. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to participate in therapy for a longer period. |
What can I expect from therapy?
Every therapy situation is unique and caters to each individual and their goals. It’s standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. For therapy to be most effective, you must be an active participant both during and between sessions. There’ll be times when you will be asked to work on exercises outside of the sessions. This is great for enhancing your growth mindset and moving you closer to your goals faster. Is what I share confidential? Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed anywhere but the therapist's office, and you can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone. Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (your Physician, Naturopath, Attorney), but by law your therapist cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission. However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations: * Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources. * If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person. We will discuss all of this as well as other policies during your initial intake session. How does online therapy work? Therapy sessions are conducted via a video platform. I use a HIPPA compliant video platform called TheraNest with an extra layer of security. You will be sent an individualized secure link for you to join our sessions. I offer secure and confidential online therapy for those living anywhere in the state of Florida. What kind of equipment do I need for online therapy? Ideally, you will have a laptop or a desktop computer but even a smartphone or tablet will work for online video therapy. Is online therapy effective? Yes! Online therapy offers the same benefits as in-person therapy and even has a couple of factors that can make the experience impactful. For those who feel more comfortable in their own home, perhaps a busy schedule, on a lunch break, or if the driving distance is too far online therapy is convenient and effective. |
